Extra Credit- Final Exams

1. The man in the subway tracks was reportedly pushed into the tracks by a harassing panhandler. The man, Ki Suk Han, who was 58, was trying to calm down the harasser before being pushed in moments before the oncoming train. The photographer said that he was trying to warm the train operator to stop with the flash from his camera after he realized he wasn't able to save Han. 2. The photographer, R. Umar Abbasi, a freelance photographer, said he took the photo in order to use the flash to warn the operator to stop because he was unable to rescue Han himself. 3. I don't think that the photo should have been taken because the man was in a life or death situation. 4. I also think that the photographer should have been helping the man get up instead of backing up and using the flash. he should have been using all he had to save that man even if he were to fail. He also could have called out for help. 5. i think that it was okay and also not okay to post the photo on the front pa

Warm-Up

1. I felt upset, sorry, terrible, and like I was unable to do anything. 2. I think that this statement is very accurate because it isn't the definition of them, but their actual lives and what happened to them. 3. I don't think I could take photos in a situation like this. Partly because i would become to emotional, and would have a hard time looking through the photos. I don't think that the pictures I could take would be so full of sadness. I think I would try to capture the happiness in my persons hardest days. 4. I don't think I would have anything to say. Of course I would say something about his loss, but I don't think I could find the words. I might thank him for allowing everyone to see his amazing photos.

Abandoned Theme Parks

Image
1. I would like to visit Takakanonuma Greenland, Hobart, Japan. I would like to visit because it looks really intact. It also looks like you can climb up into the rides and the buildings. It looks fun to explore and crawl around in. The fog makes then park look extra creepy. 2. 3. Some cool places would be like a cave, the glaciers, abandoned older-era building, the jungle, an abandoned mall, and the worlds largest treehouse. 4. 5. It would be fun to take photos there because of all the great places you have to shoot. You can also have a lot of different angles to also shoot the forest outside. I think you could get a lot of beautiful pictures with the natural light. you would end up with a color palette probably made up of browns and greens. 6. The treehouse is located in Tennessee, so i would need money for a plane ticket or another form of transportation. I would probably only need a camera and maybe if it was shaky, a stabilizer. The owner offers tours, so it wouldn

Africa

1. I think that the photos he took were amazing and breathtaking. He spent months in Africa and even waited eighteen days for a few photos. I liked how committed he was to his subject. I also like how you can see the landscape in a lot of the photos. I also liked how committed he was to his cause. 2. 3. This is a photo of a cheetah and her cubs on a cliff-like thing thing. This is my favorite photo because you can see the landscape in the back, but you can also see the cheetahs closely. I also like how the light is hitting the cheetahs, and you can see their longer hairs. 4. There is simplicity in this photo because the background is not complicated and the cheetahs are in focus.  5. Brandt photographs using a Pentax 67 camera with a modified lens to create a soft-focus effect. 6. He wanted to show the animals in their environment and in their 'state of being". 7. He hopes that his photography will inspire people to help stop the poaching. 8."There is somet

1. I think that I chose the pictures I chose because of the people in them.  I think that I wanted to pick them because Joel Meyerowitz showed those people and the  world around them. Robert Doisneau- Sunday Morning Joel Meyerowitz- Blind Man, Spain 1967 William Klein- Horn & Hardart, Lexington Avenue New York, 1963 Joel Meyerowitz  NYC New Year's Eve, 1965 Joel Meyerowitz 2. In the first photo titled New York, 1963 by Joel Meyerowitz, I see a kid probably not wanting to get in the car. I see a man holding open the door. I also see the seemingly bland buildings in the back. I smell the city, and the smell of taxi exhaust. I smell the musty inside or the car and maybe an air freshener. I also smell the cologne of the man holding open the door.I hear cars and taxis honking their horns. I hear the sounds of people talking and walking. Also, I hear the person urging the child to get into the car. I taste the smoke in the air, crisp air of what seems like f

Academic Shoot Review and Critique

1. It was really hard to find things to shoot. There weren't a lot of academic classes that weren't busy, and it felt really uncomfortable to shoot quiet classes with the camera noises. It was also hard to get people not look at the camera. 2. I was thinking mostly about rule of thirds and simplicity. Because, they seem like some of the easiest and most fun to find it was the ones I was focused on. To get simplicity I looked for a subject that was near a simple background or that I could make look like a simple background, and to get rule of thirds I just moved the camera to the side and up and/or down. I could not get framing because I did not have enough time. 3. I would like to have been more brave to go into classes, and I would have liked to move my camera/position more to accomplish what I wanted. 4.I don't think I would do anything the same because I didn't like his the shoot turned out. 5. I think that rule of thirds and simplicity will be the easiest to fol

ISO 200 ISO 3200 1) When you're at a sports game, there is most likely a lot of action, so to be able to capture the picture without blur in the movement, you should use a higher ISO. 2) The author suggested that when you have enough light you should use the lowest ISO to get the highest mage quality you can. 3) The author suggested using a higher ISO when there is low light quality and/or a lot of movement in the photo.

Shutter Speed

Also, there are two more ways to set your shutter speed manually. When you set the camera to "shutter priority", you choose the shutter speed while the camera chooses the aperture. When you set the camera to "manual", you select both the aperture and the shutter speed.

Aperture

Image
F2.8 F16 1) We should closely relate Aperture to the eyes because they both use light, shrink, expand, blur, etc. 2) The smaller the Aperture the larger the F-stop, and the larger the Aperture the smaller the F-stop. 3) The Aperture impacts the Depth of Field by blurring the background and making the object(s) in the foreground more prominent. If the F-stop is smaller the background will be more blurred than with a larger F-stop.

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

Image
A. One o the main points I read in the text was that editing and manipulating photos to a point and alter the truth to a photo. Also, over the years, just about anyone can photoshop to fit current standards. Another point is that is becoming harder and harder to see the changes mad to a photograph. Also, photo ethics are always changing. B. Newspapers like The New York Times have philosophies on labeling things, and relying on memory. C. I think it is unethical to alter photos to change someones body, cutting out people, and necessary thing to tell the truth. I think is is okay to maybe make the picture easier to see, or alter the color and cropping out unnecessary items. D.I think that this is the most unethical manipulation of a photo because it alters the truth. The university stated that they could not find any photos that showed diversity in race. To make the university more attractive to people, they edited in a person of color. I think it lies to the viewers

The composition rule is lines.I tried to make the subject be the lines leading towards the girls.  It is probably difficult for people to find the subject because the background is too blurry. I could have angles the camera better to show what the lines lead to. The composition rule was balance. I tried to make the subject the girl. It is probably a little hard to tell what the subject is because of the book. I could have moved the book out of the frame. The rule was simplicity. The subject are the girls. It is probably easy to tell what the subjects are because the background is not enticing. I still would have taken the last girl out of the photo because she was not looking at the camera. The composition rule was rule of thirds. The subject is the computer screen. I think that it is pretty sill to see the subject, but I would have like to have that left arm taken out of the frame. The photo is a merger. I think that this is a good example of a merger because the ba
