Student of the Month story

This April, the Student of the Month is Selvia Nyob. Students interviewed Selvia to learn more about her and her time at Bowie High. The article also highlights her accomplishments.

Selvia was recently awarded the student of the Month award.

"I think that my positive attitude has really contributed to me winning this thing," Selvia explained.


Many of Selvia's friends have reacted to her winning this in a positive way.

"They are all really happy for me," Selvia explained.

Her teacher, Mrs. Maniscalco, has commented on her recent win.

"I was so happy to learn of Selvia's accomplishment, and I think she is a wonderful student," math teacher Mrs.Maniscalco said.

Selvia maintain good relationships with everyone.

" I love all my friends," Selvia said.

The student also likes to participate in many electives. "I am in tech theater, photojournalism, and art," Selvia told us.

She also does things outside of school.

"I play club soccer, draw, and hang out with my friends," explained Selvia.

School is also a big part of Selvia's life.

"I focus a lot on school and my grades reflect that," Selvia said.

Besides winning Student of the Month, Selvia has other plans.

" I plan to keep my grades up as well as my attitude," Selvia said.

The next Student of the Month will be announced in the late last week of April.

The Camera

1) The camera obscura effect is an optical effect. You can achieve this effect in a completely dark room using a hole in the wall and a light . The hole acted as a lens when the light was focused and the  outside image was projected upside down on the wall. It was the first camera. 2) Isaac Newton and Christian Huygens got a better understanding of optics, and learned how to make higher quality lenses to make a better camera. 3) In 1827 , Joseph Nicephore Niepce added film to create the first successful photograph. He used a glass lens, a dark box, and a film. 4) Modern cameras still have some of the same features as the old ones. Light still has to pass through the lens and into the camera, and the end result is still a photograph. 5) More modern digital cameras use an electronic sensor called a CCD.
