Turning Torso
1. It was designed by Santiago Calatrava.
2. The turning Torso opened in 2005 during the month of August.
3. It is located in Malmo, Sweden.
4. It is visitable. The building has luxury apartments and offices.
5. Many websites say the final cost was around 1600 million U.S. dollars.
6. The building is inspired by the twisting of a human spine.
7. I picked this based on it's name. It was cool how it wasn't named after a name, but named after an actual thing. I also wanted to see how an architect could make a building look like a torso. The building may not look super fancy, but the actual curving architecture is nice.
Atomium
1. The Atomium was designed by Andre Waterkeyn, Andre Polak, and Jean Polak.
2. It originally opened in 1958.
3. It is located in Bruxelles, Belgium.
4. It is visitable to tourists and locals. Belgium school kids can even sleep there overnight.
5. I could not find the cost, but the recent renovation cost 23 million dollars.
6. The building is in the shape of an iron atom built for the 1958 world fair.
7. I picked the Atonium because of the shape. At first, I was confused by the shape, and didn't know if I looked up the real one. When I read about it and saw the photos, I was intrigued because of the interesting architecture around the globes.
Habitat 67
1. It was designed by architect Moshe Sadie.
2. It opened in 1967.
3. It is located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
4. It is visitable, but residents live in the apartments.
5. It cost 22 million to build.
6. Habitat 67 was made to 'reinvent apartment living'.
7 I chose this building looking at another when this one was suggested. It looked unreal because of the apartments above others. I was also interested in how bug it was and why it was built.
Sculptured House
1. It was designed by Charles Deaton.
2. It was finished in 1963.
3. The house is located in Jefferson County, Colorado on Genesee Mountain.
4. It may be visitable by request, but there are residents.
5. The house cost over 1.3 million dollars to build.
6. The architect wanted there to be a house that could model the way he felt on the mountain.
7. I chose this house because it looked really cool. I think I've heard of it before because of the movie shot in it. The house itself is fun, with large windows and a big interior.
Kansas City Public Library
1. The library was designed by architect
2. The library opened in 2004.
3. It is located in Kansas City, Missouri.
4. It is visitable with many cool places to see.
5. The library cost around 50 million dollars to build.
6. The outside of the library is inspired by famous books.
7. I chose the library because of the cool books on the outside. I also love to read, so I wanted to see how architecture was incorporated into a library, which is usually traditionally boring.
